HMRC POSTAL LETTER GUIDE

Sending correspondence to HMRC

Some tax matters can be completed more quickly through HMRC’s official online account or forms. If you have been specifically instructed to send a paper letter, use the correct postal address and retain a copy.

Choose your postal service based on the significance of the documents and any stated deadline. Royal Mail confirmation or a signature does not automatically prove that HMRC has processed your letter.

  1. Read the current instructions from HMRC and confirm the correct UK address.
  2. Prepare a clear letter including the reference numbers HMRC has asked you to include.
  3. Use SendPrint to write or paste the letter, or upload your own PDF.
  4. Review the preview and address, then choose postage and make payment.

We do not verify tax documents, supply signatures or guarantee receipt by a particular government department. For urgent matters use the official HMRC contact options.
